Tribute to my Other Father

At 90 years old, George William Nsambwe Mukiibi is the same honourable man that I have known for the last 33 years.  He has always been genuine to himself and all those around him.   In addition to all his great principles, he is a tidy and organised gentleman who still keeps his garden looking splendid to this date.

Nearly 30 members of the family gathered and spent Sunday (September 11, 2022) together enjoying food and a cake in honour of the legendary patriarch of the family.

Ninety years is more than a milestone, it’s an accomplishment of the grandest comparison.  At 90, the family paterfamilias has already experienced a lifetime of national, local, historical, and familial events that many of us will only ever read about.

For all those in attendance yesterday,  Mukiibi Nsambwe is the true patriarch and hero of our family.  He is a man who commands respect and love in equal measure. He is open and real to whoever he interacts with.   You exactly know where you stand with him.

He preaches love and oneness of family at every opportunity and does not ask for much from any of us in return except for all us to have love, patience, understanding and faith for each other.  It seems quite simple and it should be but when you have a family as diverse and geographically scattered like ours, it is important that we are reminded how it is essential to keep working relationships with one another.

It is this oneness of family and faith in God that has seen him raise his children and many others whom have come through his doors to be excellent individuals.  In our parting prayer on the evening of Sunday 11thSeptember, he still asked us of one thing, love one another because that’s what God wants us to do.

He is truly a remarkable and special man and we all look forward to celebrating more milestone birthdays with him as one family full of love.
